VALUE CO-CREATION AND COMMUNITY RESILIENCE IN EXTREME CONTEXTS

Prof. Dr. Viltė Auruškevičienė (ISM University of Management and Economics, Social Sciences, Management, S 003) supervised the dissertation from 2021 to 2025.

The doctoral dissertation will be defended at the Scientific Council of Management at ISM University of Management and Economics on November 20, 2025, at 11 A.M. in ISM room 210.

Summary:

As extreme situations become more frequent, understanding why some people adapt and thrive while others struggle is increasingly important. This dissertation explores how perceived threat during war influences citizens’ value co-creation (VCC) as a coping strategy and how such behaviour enhances community resilience. A quantitative study in Lithuania and Finland found that self-efficacy and response efficacy are stronger drivers of VCC than perceived vulnerability or threat severity, with notable cross-country differences. Psychological distance was shown to make reactions more rational than emotional. The dissertation offers insights for communication and marketing professionals, policymakers, and NGO leaders aiming to foster constructive citizen engagement and strengthen community resilience in times of crisis.
