Research seminar Promoting goal progress through self-affirming social media use

2017-11-28

ISM kindly invites to participate in Research Seminar Promoting goal progress through self-affirming social media use by Guido M. van Koningsbruggen (PhD), Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Science at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Seminar will take place on the 28th of November, 11:00, room 412

Abstract:

People often fail in attaining goals, such as losing weight or studying for exams. Self-affirmation interventions that remind people of valued self-aspects (e.g., close relationships) improve goal attainment. Whereas self-affirmation can easily be induced in lab experiments, triggering self-affirmation in real life is challenging. In this talk, I will propose that self-affirming social media use - social media use that reminds people of valued self-aspects - might solve this problem.
